Breakfast is thought by many to be the most important meal of the day and when you stay in a hotel it may be even more so.
New tax legislation currently in committee in Tennessee proposes to put a tax on the complimentary breakfast served at most hotels in the state. Proponents of the bill say it could raise as much as 2 million dollars in revenues and would likely not affect hotel customers. Some in the hospitality industry say they would have to pass on the cost to their customers if the tax becomes a reality.
Quality Inn and Suites General Manager in Johnson City, Nichole Bennett, said that free breakfast is a big draw for the hotel and a tax on complementary breakfast could limit what they are able to offer customers.
