Road crews started a large milling and repaving project in Kingsport Monday night.
The work was paid for with money from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
Assistant Director of Kingsport Public Works Michael Thompson said, for the next two weeks it's out with the old and in with the new.
"We use a rotary machine and chew up the existing pavement, down to the level of what we are going to put back on," Thompson said.
The affected streets are Eastman Road (from Stone Drive to Lincoln Street) and Center Street (from Fort Henry Drive to Memorial Boulevard).
"We're going to do the work at night when the traffic is the lightest," Thompson said.
Crews start work each night at 7 p.m., and finish at 6 a.m. the following day.
