ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. (AP) - A Carter County deputy didn't have to look far to make an arrest in a weekend burglary.
Sheriff's Sgt. Brian Durham said he saw 19-year-old William Brian Deel III climbing a bank after getting his car stuck in a field next to the burglarized house.
Durham told the Johnson City Press he found several stolen items in Deel's car. A drawer was missing from a tool chest and deputies found it next to the ransacked house.
A truck parked next to the house had a broken steering column.
Dunham said Deel, of Johnson City, admitted he broke into the home and said he broke the truck trying unsuccessfully to hot wire it - to pull his car out of the field.
Charges include aggravated burglary; theft over $1,000, vandalism over $1,000, auto burglary and possession of burglary tools.
