Where are some constructive ideas for future?

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Don’t you think it’s time we Americans stopped Obama-bashing? After all, he inherited a real mess of a country from the GOP. Today’s ultra-conservative GOP certainly isn’t the answer; just look at their record: They controlled the Senate for 12 years (1994-2006) and did nothing for us. They spent the first six years hounding Clinton and the next six planning and waging war in Iraq, having deliberately ignored the outgoing Clinton administration’s warnings about the danger of Al Qaeda. That bit of arrogance cost us Sept. 11, 2001. And how much money did their war cost us?
Let’s not forget that Reagan, Bush I, and Bush II ran this country into debt, while Clinton gave us a surplus. The Democrats are always labeled the “tax and spend” party. Well, the GOP doesn’t like to increase taxes, so they’ve become the “borrow and spend” party, and the U.S. is becoming the breadbasket of China as a result.
Back when we had a moderate GOP, they endorsed the Equal Rights Amendment; Nixon signed more environmental legislation than any other President in history, and in 1974 he advanced a proposal for universal health coverage. That brand of moderate Republicanism is now extinct.
Look at the GOP’s spokespersons: Ann Coulter, Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Sarah Palin, Newt Gingrich. All ranters and ravers and hatemongers and not an idea among them, except for furthering their wealth and careers. Not one constructive idea for fixing any problem. The GOP Senators all sit there, mute and smug, and vote “No” on anything and everything. Negativism is the only thing the GOP offers us.
Let’s not forget that we do live in the 21st century, not 1850 where all the above-mentioned folks’ brains live, and we’re all in this together. Positive thinking, anyone?
