Griffith would represent Roanoke Valley, not us

»  Comments | Post a Comment

The race for the Ninth District Congressional position is heating up. On Feb. 24, Virginia Delegate Morgan Griffith issued a press release that lists a group of supposed supporters that include elected state Delegates and Senators. This is very distressing to me.
I have a strong objection to this supposed candidate and challenge the fact that he is one of us. He lives in Salem, which is in Roanoke County. Roanoke County already has a congressman in Bob Goodlatte. I would think that someone from another district would be ineligible to run in our district, the Fighting Ninth. However, should it be legal, the candidacy of Morgan Griffith would not give us a representative, but would in essence give the Roanoke Valley another representative.
Does Virginia stop at Roanoke? If Morgan Griffith were elected as the congressman from the 9th District, then it would be an absolute assurance that Virginia would stop at Roanoke.
Congressman Boucher has seniority in the U.S. House of Representatives and has an established working relationship with current officials. He has met the challenge of many citizen problems and achieved great success for representing the people within the 9th District.
Congressman Boucher has supported the coal industry by working closely with the coal operators who strongly support his re-election. The United Mine Workers of America union members and President Cecil Roberts support Congressman Boucher’s re-election. Congressman Boucher strongly supports the creation of jobs, a strong coal industry, the installation of broadband Internet access, the funding to insure clean drinking water and safe sewage disposal. Congressman Boucher has worked to bring medical clinics into areas of need. Congressman Boucher has stepped up to the plate many times to protect your right to own and bear firearms.
I would request that the people in this district consider the great accomplishments of Congressman Boucher and decide to send him back to Congress to work for our political interest. I would ask that all the citizens who live in Alleghany, Tazewell, Buchanan, Russell, Washington, Giles and Smyth counties would come out in support of Congressman Boucher and ask their friends, neighbors and family to vote for him.

Charles E. Vernon
North Tazewell, Va.
