Bristol Tennessee Police Department
Feb. 27
* A woman stopped by the police station to say that “Officer John Brown” with the U.S. Crime Prevention Department left her a voice message on her cell phone that said she was involved in a lawsuit and owed over $150 to the state. She told police that the man “spoke with a foreign voice and demanded payment before she is sued.” Officer Brown had her social security number and bank account information, so she closed her account. Because she has no outstanding loans or bills going to collections, she told police she thought it was a scam.
* A woman called from Anderson Street when a neighbor’s dog ran over into her yard, jumped on her schnauzer, then started “shaking the dog in its mouth.” Her husband ran out to “break up the fight between the animals,” and saved the schnauzer from injury. She said she just wanted the incident documented, and police told her to call animal control with any further problems.
