State board finds nursing home supervisor did not ignore sexual abuse complaints

RICHMOND, Va. -- A state licensing board has ruled that nursing home supervisor Helen Roberts did not ignore the complaints of sexual abuse by convicted serial molester James Wright at National HealthCare-Bristol.
In an informal hearing Monday, the Virginia Board of Nursing did find that Roberts should have documented some other problems with Wright’s job performance, and that she failed to pass on an allegation that he tried to force-feed a patient.
As a result, the board ordered Roberts to enroll in nursing courses for documentation as well as for professional accountability.
Wright is serving 60 years in prison for sexually assaulting four patients at NHC-Bristol from 2000 to 2007.
In April, the nursing board reprimanded and levied a $1,500 fine against former Director of Nursing Elizabeth Anne Franklin for ignoring some abuse complaints.
Current NHC-Bristol Administrator Charlotte Wilson is awaiting a hearing on accusations that she ignored similar complaints.
