LEBANON, Va. – The recession hasn’t stopped high-tech firm Northrop Grumman from hiring workers for its Lebanon facility.
The company is holding a job fair today to hire 16 technical help desk support staff members.
Spokesman Christy Whitman said the company is looking for “computer-savvy professionals and recent college grads,” and job applicants are encouraged to file online before attending. They can do so by following the “careers” link at www.northropgrumman.com.
Whitman said the company is trying to hire locally. The job fair is being held from noon to 6 p.m. at the Southwest Virginia Technology Development Center, adjacent to Russell County offices at 141 Highland Drive in Lebanon.
At the company’s Lebanon facility, recruiter Jerry Honaker said the 16 hires will bring the total number of workers to about 200.
“We are hiring graduates almost as soon as they [local colleges] can graduate the students,” Honaker said, noting that they are looking for both traditional and non-traditional students.
“We look for [job] candidates that have been laid off from manufacturing positions and went back to school to retool their careers,” he said.
The graduates being hired come mainly from two programs: a high-tech training program at Southwest Virginia Community College and a degree program at the University of Virginia’s College at Wise.
