Carter County investigators identified the boy as Daniel Adams. They say he lived at the house in which he died and was alone at the time of the incident. Sheriff Chris Mathes said relatives live nearby.

A 14-year old boy died Wednesday afternoon when a muzzle loading rifle exploded at the Adams residence on Highway 19E in Carter County near the Sullivan County line.
Carter County Sheriff Chris Mathes says apparently the boy loaded the wrong size ammunition in the rifle.
The boy was flown to Johnson City Medical Center where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The Sheriff says the incident was accidental, but the investigation continues.
