Virginia's unemployment rate in June increased from the previous month but was the same as the June 2009
rate.
The Virginia Employment Commission reported Tuesday that the unadjusted rate was 7.1 percent last month, up from 6.9 percent in May. The increase was attributed to students and recent graduates joining the job-seeking ranks.
Nationally, the unadjusted rate was 9.5 percent in June, up from 9.3 percent the previous month.
