BVU lineman burned in work accident

ABINGDON, Va. – A Bristol Virginia Utilities lineman was airlifted to the hospital in Bristol on Wednesday after making contact with a live electrical line.

“He’s had some burns,” said Robert Snodgras, vice president of operations for BVU. “He’s alive and, we hope, stable.”

The man’s identity was not immediately released because his wife hadn’t been notified.

When the accident occurred, the lineman was working on power equipment at BVU’s water filtration plant on Watauga Road. BVU is investigating how it happened.

“I’ve been here 27 years, and we’ve never had an accident like that,” said Snodgrass, who was visibly upset. “I’m praying he’ll be all right.”
