A South Carolina inmate who walked away from a minimum security facility last week was captured in Kingsport following a brief car chase Monday night.
Chucky, J. Elmore, 27, walked away from the Catawba Pre-release Center in Rock Hill, South Carolina last Wednesday morning. In addition to fugitive and grand larceny charges in South Carolina, Elmore is also wanted in Marion, Virginia for attempted murder after he assaulted a relative whom he believed was going to turn him in.
Kingsport Police were alerted by South Carolina authorities Monday afternoon that Elmore, and two women who had aided in his escape were located at the Westside Inn on Stone Drive. Kingsport Police observed Elmore, Tina Mackey, 30, and Melissa White, 32, at the scene. Police attempted to stop a vehicle which fled the scene and later crashed following a short chase at the intersection of John B. Dennis Highway and Lincoln Street.
Both Mackey and Elmore were transported to Holston Valley for medical treatment following the accident. White, who was not in the vehicle, was arrested later near the intersection of Stone Drive and Eastman Road.
Elmore will face fugitive from justice charges in both South Carolina and Marion, Virginia. White and Mackey also face fugitive from justice charges in South Carolina. All three are currently located at the Sullivan County Jail.
