Old Man Winter keeps showing his face around the Tri-Cities region, preventing people from getting outside and many say enough is enough. Yesterday's sunny skies gave people a brief chance to enjoy the outdoors.
But prolonged periods with cold temperatures force most people indoors looking for ways to pass the time and that's not good for our sanity. More than the cold and clouds, Doctor Steve Brown says being forced to stay inside makes people depressed.
"They tend to be less active, and that tends to create more of that cabin fever or as some would say, situational depression," said Dr. Brown. To combat those feelings, Doctor Brown suggests getting together with friends for engaging indoor activities, like having a simple conversation or listening to music.
Also, he says make sure to lay off the junk food when stuck inside because that can contribute to a depressed mood.
