BRISTOL, Va. – Police are searching this hour for a red Mustang believed to have been involved in a street-racing crash that killed a woman.
The Tri-Cities woman, whose name has not been released, was hit at about 6 tonight as she sat in her car at the red light in front of the Bristol Mall at Gate City Highway and Osborne Street, said police Sgt. T.J. Sexton.
Two vehicles, the Mustang and a Trans Am, were racing on Gate City Highway toward Bristol when the crash occurred, Sexton said. The driver of the Trans Am, which hit the woman's vehicle and then crashed, was taken to Bristol Regional Medical Center, police said.
The mustang fled the scene. According to police, it is a 2004 or 2005 model with “after market” wheels, a V-8 and possibly a Cobra body style.
Anyone who sees the vehicle or has information about the crash is asked to call the Bristol Virginia Police Department.
For details of the crash, read Tuesday’s Bristol Herald Courier.
