Mother nature dealt Erwin another bad hand this afternoon. The town once again did battle with wind that brought down trees and damaged structures.
11 Connects Digital Journalist Chris McIntosh is reporting that power is out to some homes in Erwin. He also said the wind damaged the steeple at Erwin United Methodist Church.
The wind did a number on trees across the town.
According to meteorologist Rob Williams, the winds affecting Erwin right now are called "mountain waves" and only impact a small part of our area. This is the 5th time since December 2009 that Erwin has experienced these damaging winds.
These winds are expected to die down through the night. We'll have an update on the damage later today.
