UPDATE: 12:03 a.m. Saturday
BLOUNTVILLE, Tenn. – While no one was hurt in the blaze, a Friday morning fire destroyed one person’s home in the Misty Rivers condominium complex and severely damaged two other units.
Sullivan County Volunteer Fire Department Capt. Wayne Carroll said the fire started in the Hamilton Road complex’s A4 Unit about 11 a.m. Four volunteer departments – his department, Avoca, Piney Flats and Warrior’s Path – went out to fight the fire with almost a dozen fire trucks and support vehicles.
Carroll said the fire then spread to the two condominiums on either side of the complex’s A4 unit.
Misty Rivers’ A3 unit sustained significant fire and water damage, he said, while the A5 unit sustained moderate fire and water damage.
Carroll said the county fire department will continue investigating the cause of the fire. As part of this investigation, he said, the department had to cut power to the three damaged condominiums and to two adjacent condominiums, the complex’s A2 and A6 units. The five units, which Carroll estimated are home to about nine or 10 people, will have no power at least until Sunday night.
