The Dean of East Tennessee State University's Quillen College of Medicine is working to prevent state budget cuts from hitting his programs.

Governor Phil Bredesen's proposed TennCare cuts could eliminate $8,000,000 from ETSU's Residency Program, which amounts to a 22 percent cut to the program.

Dean Philip Bagnell said if the cuts go through, he may have to cut programs and positions, which is bad news for patients.

"It will ultimately impact the future of health care... the number of people that are available to deliver health care in our region," said Dr. Bagnell.

Doctor Bagnell said Quillen faced similar cuts last year, but the state found a solution to avoid them. He said that same solution won't be available this year and hopes something else can be arranged.
