Glenn Walden Junior was one of the first people to call 911 Monday morning when he saw Thomas Richard Cowan pull a gun on Principal Melanie Riden.
Walden ran behind a pillar as he watched the situation unfold, and he later moved behind a wall when Cowan's back was turned. That is where he placed a call to 911 using his cell phone.
Walden said School Resource Officer Carolyn Gudger had just arrived at Central from another school in the district, and he went to say good morning to her.
But, when he got there, Riden asked Gudger to follow her to speak with Cowan. Walden started walking away, but when he looked back he saw Cowan pull the gun.
"First thing I did was pray, and I got on the phone and called 911. If I couldn't do anything physically, I thought maybe I could get someone there who could," said Walden.
Walden described the scene to 911 dispatchers and even let some officers into the building who were locked out.
When he heard gun shots, he worried something bad had happened to his friend, Officer Gudger. But, he was relieved to see she was safe.
