A former Catholic priest faced a Scott County judge Monday for the first time since a grand jury indicted him on new sex crimes. William "Bill" Casey pleaded not guilty to charges of forcible sodomy and indecent liberties with a minor Monday inside a Scott County courtroom.
The former Kingsport and Greeneville priest is expected to make $5,000 bond tonight and be released back to his Greene County home. There, he will be monitored by a home electronic monitoring device.
As part of the bond agreement, Judge John Kilgore also ordered Casey to turn over his passport, stay away from children, and have no communication with the victim in this case.
Warren Tucker says more than 30 years ago when he was still a child, Casey sexually abused him inside Natural Tunnel State Park. According to the indictments, the abuse occurred during a three-month period in 1978.
Casey now has until November 22nd to decide whether or not he wants to accept a plea bargain. Pending that decision, Judge Kilgore set Casey’s trial date for January 26, 2011.
Casey’s attorney, Walt Rivers, chose not to comment about this case.
In July, Casey pleaded guilty to crimes against nature in McDowell County, NC. In return for that guilty plea, he was sentenced to 24 months of supervised probation.
