Fair festivities kick off Monday, and officials say there's one thing you need to do before you let your kids run around and jump on the rides.
Children's Emergency Contact is set up giving out free safety tattoos to put on your kids so they don't get lost.
Mom of two Hayley Dietrich knows from experience there's no such thing as a perfect parent. “Last year at Fun Fest, my child happened to run down the street and I just though what would happen if my child is lost. What would I do?”
That's when she came up with the idea for safety tattoos.
“You put them on just like any other temporary tattoo with a paper towel and some cold water.”
On this tattoo, you write your phone number incase your child gets separated from you.
The fair can seem like a big playground to kids causing them to wander off, but officials say last year, this tattoo saved many kids from getting lost.
Constable Mike Ford says, “They were a great, great thing for us here. We found 17 or 18 kids with those tattoos.”
Officers were able to reunite these kids with safety tattoos to their parents very quickly before anything bad was to happen, and you can pick one up for free at the Children's Emergency Contact booth at the fair.
Because as Dietrich explains, “No one plans to lose a child. If you plan to lose a child, you’re not a parent so put this on your child before something happens.”
The Children's Emergency Contact booth is in front of Building 3, and you can also have your child fingerprinted there as well for extra safety precautions.
