A Johnson City man is dead after falling nearly 100 feet into Boone Lake. The incident happened behind Quail Harbor Drive near Winged Deer Park in Johnson City at about 7:30 p.m. Thursday night.

The Washington County, Tennessee Sheriff's Office says John Morton, 39, threw a ball over a fence while playing fetch with his dog. The Sheriff's Office tells 11 Connects that Morton climbed over the fence to get the ball, but that he lost his footing and fell 80 to 100 feet into the water. Divers discovered Morton in the water within 30 minutes and performed lifesaving procedures, but he later died at Johnson City Medical Center.

The Sheriff's Office says that they think Morton drowned.
