Harold Lewis is caretaker of a cemetery along Interstate 26 in Erwin, Tennessee. He said he was shocked when he started noticing huge holes near some of the grave sites.
"When I first seen it, I just couldn't hardly believe it," said Lewis.
He said the animals have dug up casket handles. Lewis has used his rifle and traps to get rid of the groundhogs. Even though they are a nuisance, Lewis said he can't help but laugh about the situation.
"It's funny, but they sure are digging them out," Lewis said.
But for Lewis, it's also sad to see something like this happen to someone's final resting place.
"One of those graves there a little old girl was eight years old,” said Lewis.
He said he'll continue to do whatever ever he can to get rid of the groundhogs, but he knows that won't be easy.
"It seems like we get them slowed down and they come right back," said Lewis.
