Update at 4:48 p.m. Sunday:
Lt. T. Tester said the victim, 22-year-old Lauren Cole of Bristol Tenn., was the only person in the vehicle.
She was submerged in the pond when emergency workers found her, Tester said.
Authorities have not determined a cause of death. They are waiting on the results of autopsy and toxicology reports -- both standard operating procedure in fatal crashes of this nature, Tester said.

Bristol, Tenn. -- Bristol Tennessee Police, Patrol Division released the following information to 11 Connects Sunday:
"The Bristol Tennessee Police Department is currently investigating a single vehicle, single occupant, fatal motor vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 3:59 a.m. on September 20, 2009 on King College Road, Bristol Tennessee in the area of King College.
"The vehicle, a Ford Sport Utility Vehicle, was travelling east bound on King College Road, left the roadway, struck a tree and came to rest in the pond on King College property.
"The name of the occupant is not being released at this time, pending notification of next of kin.
"The crash is still under investigation."
