To the country music performers: Recently we had a shocking loss to our family. Paul Freeman, a brother and dad, passed away on June 20. Shortly thereafter, a friend called and said various country music performers paid a memorial tribute to him on State Street. I don’t know who the band was, but they were so thoughtful. It really helped us with our grief and we really appreciate it.
Paul was instrumental in getting music on the street started at Barker’s grocery store, Bob Lark’s back porch, Hardee’s on Lee Highway and Euclid Avenue, then to the stage on State Street.
I believe Paul’s happiest hours on this earth were spent singing and mingling with people.
He wasn’t on stage on the night of the tribute, but I believe he was up there, looking down and smiling.
May God bless each of you and again, thank you.
