Writer Fears Czars' Influence On President

»  Comments | Post a Comment

The sorry spectacle of Van Jones should alert the major media to the very real danger that Barack Obama’s “shadow government” poses for our country.

For two weeks, the evidence regarding Jones’ unfitness for office continued to grow, but the media, including the Bristol Herald Courier, only found out about him when he resigned. ABC, NBC and CBS News reported no stories on Jones and the nation’s major newspapers seemingly never heard of him until his resignation. This should have been a major news story. Why was it not covered?

The czar system that Obama is using is a threat to our form of government and probably unconstitutional. The czars are carefully selected, apparently not properly investigated and they are not confirmed by the Senate. They answer only to Obama.

The Associated Press story published in the Herald Courier on Sept. 7, regarding Jones’ resignation, describes Jones as “having left-wing views.” Pretty mild, don’t you think?

Van Jones is an admitted communist, a revolutionary, a radical and, in my view, a racist. Why was such a person placed in an authoritative position, with control over taxpayer money?

The American people have a right to know and the media has a duty to report who these czars are. How many more like Jones are there?

When federal employees are hired, they are required to take an oath of office and swear to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States. If Jones took the oath, he lied. Communists want to overthrow the U.S. government, not preserve it. By definition, communists are totalitarian, not democratic. What does having such an adviser tell us about Obama?

By the way, why no “Thumbs Down” on Jones’ filthy language?

Editor’s note: This newspaper published a commentary from syndicated columnist Charles Krauthammer on Friday, Sept. 11, regarding Van Jones and his resignation, which addressed Jones’ coarse language and communism claims from the early 1990s. We agree with the points made in the commentary, particularly that there is no defense for Jones signing a statement in 2004 calling for an investigation that the Bush administration allowed the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. The claim is ludicrous, warrants Jones’ removal and we fully support his resignation. Krauthammer’s commentary appeared on page A10 of the Friday, Sept. 11, edition.
