Writer Appreciated Story On Land Use, Development

»  Comments | Post a Comment

As an active participant in the Civil War Preservation Trust, please accept my deepest appreciation for printing the recent commentary: “Walmart, history and rationalization,” from the Woodbridge/Manassas Journal. The article describes the actions of Walmart to build a distribution center at the very front door of the Wilderness Battlefield, which is of great importance to the overall picture of the Civil War.

It is difficult to understand the arrogance of Walmart and I often wonder if the concessions they gain are actually paid back to the communities they have pressured to allow their establishments.

Our family is surviving without having to shop at a Walmart.

The recent events at Abingdon confirm that, given the right set of elected individuals, communities do not have to bow down to the demands of this huge company.

I hope that everyone will assist in the appeal of the actions of the shortsighted individuals who only view the short term gains of their actions and not the preservation of historical sites for future generations. I can’t believe Walmart is not able to move the facility site 20 or so miles away.
