In their later years, both my mother-in-law and my mother found need for full-time care at National Healthcare in Bristol, Va.
As a former health care company executive, I was extremely diligent in investigating and monitoring NHC. I visited every day and many nights, at varied times, so that my audit could not be anticipated. I never found an incidence of anything except complete care and concern for patient safety. More often than no, I would find the administrator, both day and night, walking through the floors, talking to patients, picking up small pieces of debris, helping where such was warranted and in general just looking over the situation. I found she had a complete open door policy and I never had a request that she didn’t immediately attempt to meet. As a former CEO, I was very favorably impressed.
In every society there is opportunity for undesirable persons to be present. If this is truly the case for NHC, I have every confidence, through years of audit and personal experience, that the administration has acted in an appropriate manner. So far, I only see innuendo and suggestion of malfeasance and am greatly saddened that the institution that took such great care of my loved ones is being unjustly smeared.
