I am writing this letter in regard to the organizers of the Washington County, Va., Fair. It never ceases to amaze me how that as each year the county fair comes to Abingdon, there rarely, if ever, is a modern-day rock band included in the entertainment portion of the fair. Correct me if I’m wrong, but the last time I checked, it is called the “county fair,” not the “country fair.” I’m sure that there are plenty of taxpaying county residents who have the same view on this matter as I do.
I have two close friends who are in the rock-n-roll promotional business, and I have discussed this issue with them. They have assured me that there are numerous rock bands that are on the same level of notoriety as the current, all country line-up, and in the same budget range.
I truly believe that these fair entertainment organizers should at least respect our views enough to give the hard working, loyal, taxpaying residents of this county some variety when it comes to the different genres of music to choose from. Let’s face facts here: Not all county residents enjoy country music!
Let us not forget what President Obama built his campaign on, “It’s time for change.” It’s time that the fair entertainment organizers give this county an unbiased entertainment lineup.
