A Washington County, Tennessee School Board member is now under censure by the board, after he admitted to making a lewd sexual gesture in a classroom at David Crockett High School in early October.
That board member, Keith Ervin, also admitted to using profanity in front of students. Last night, the school board listened to Ervin's apology where he stated the following. "I shouldn't have said what I said...I guess I was trying to act like I was 18 again. I made a mistake. I never would've dreamed the kid would be upset with me," said Ervin.
Soon after, Chairman Phillip McLain issued a motion of censure, instead of starting the process to remove him from office. "Mr. Ervin's a fine individual, he's a good board member, he cares about the school, he cares about the budget process we go through, and he cares very much about the children," said McLain.
The board unanimously approved the censure. It states Ervin will not be allowed on any campuses within the Washington County school system during school hours without a member of the school's management team. He will remain on the school board for the rest of his term.
