Jonesborough Market Facing Destruction

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Kelly Street has been working at Five Points Grocery since 1995.

Her father, Charles Willis, bought the store in 1977. This past Summer he passed away and left the store to Street.

Street, and two other employees run the store, that sees about 500 customers per day.

A few days ago, some of Street's customers came in, and said they were going to miss her. She asked what they were talking about, and that's when she found out that her store would be destroyed to make way for a new traffic circle at the Five Points intersection.

The plans for the new traffic circle were finalized on October 12th, at a meeting of the Jonesborough Board of Mayor and Aldermen. The problem was, no one from Jonesborough or the Tennessee Department of Transportation let Street know that the meeting was going on.

Street is naturally upset about the situation, and at the moment, she doesn't know what she is going to do next.

A representative of the Town of Jonesborough came to the store on Wednesday afternoon to apologize to Street, for not informing her about the meeting. She was also told that someone from T-D-O-T would be contacting her about payment for her property.

Street still has lots of questions about the traffic circle, and the future of her store, but she also has one question that still keeps popping into her mind.

"I wonder what my Dad would say...about this?", said Street.
