The Sullivan County Regional Health Department has received its first 600 doses of the H1N1 Novel Influenza Vaccine in the form of FluMist®, which is a nasally administered vaccine that contains a live attenuated virus.
Sullivan County Regional Health Department will be focusing delivery of the Flumist® for the CDC target group of healthy children, 2-24 years of age. According to guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), those who should not receive Novel H1N1 FluMist® include:
1. Those who have received Tamiflu® or other influenza antivirals in the last 14 days.
2. Those who have a cold, nasal congestion, asthma, or respiratory problems.
3. Those who have decreased immunity status.
4. Those who are pregnant.
5. Those who have allergies to eggs or Gentamicin.
6. Those who are taking aspirin.
7. Those who have received seasonal FluMist® in the last 4 weeks.
Vaccine will be delivered by appointment only. Appointments can be scheduled by calling the Sullivan County Regional Health Department call center at (423) 279-2663. More vaccine is anticipated and updates will be announced when it arrives.
