Area Shriners want an apology after a miscommunication with Unicoi County's Chamber of Commerce at Erwin's Christmas parade Saturday. The Chamber has a new policy, no motorcycles or four-wheelers in the parade.

But, area Shriners say that's news to them. They showed up with the go karts they always use, only to be told they could not use them.

Chamber Director Amanda Delp said her office informed parade participants ahead of time about the new policy through press releases and verbal communication. She apologizes for the misunderstanding, but not the policy aimed at improving public safety.

"Looking at the way the crowd stands so close in the street it is dangerous..there are children running in all directions," said Delp.

Unicoi County Mayor Greg Lynch called the incident, "A very unfortunate event for the county." He told 11 Connects he apologizes to the Shriners on behalf of the county.
