Three arrested for passing counterfeit money in Johnson City

Three Watauga residents were arrested over the weekend in Johnson City for involvement in a counterfeit scam and drug-related charges.

Three Watauga residents were arrested over the weekend in Johnson City for involvement in a counterfeit scam and drug-related charges.

According to the Johnson City Police, Christopher D. Peterson, 27, of 1895 Sunflower Lane, Watauga, Tenn. as well as Michael L. Peterson, 26 and Misty A. Shelton, 24, all of the same address were arrested. All three were charged with 136 counts of criminal simulation and 136 counts of use of a counterfeit mark or logo.

Christopher Peterson was also charged with possession of schedule II when a search at the time of arrest revealed drugs.

The arrests were the result of an investigation into the passing of counterfeit money at various businesses and to various people throughout Johnson City.

All three were transported to the Washington County Detention Center and placed under a $100,000 bond. An initial appearance date is scheduled for General Sessions Court today.
