Walter Shell Murder Trial

It will be another four months before a judge decides whether or not a man should stand trial for a 10 year-old double murder.

Tuesday in Washington County, Tennessee court, Judge Jerry Beck set bond for 81 year-old Walter Shell at $750,000.

Johnson City Police first arrested Shell in 1999 after they said he gunned down Paul Kyser and attorney John Goodin.

Shell has remained in jail since his release from a mental hospital in March. On March 12, 2010, Judge Beck will decide if Shell is now competent enough to face murder charges.

Tuesday, district attorney Tony Clark revealed the results of two independent reports. Both reports suggest Shell is incompetent to stand trial, but is also not a danger to society.
