Global warming theory leaves many questions

»  Comments | Post a Comment

The Bristol Herald Courier recently ran a large Associated Press story about – gasp – global warming. It is difficult to know what is really right, because each side believes that it is really right. Or at least pretends to.
One problem is that stories like the AP piece leave out one important thing that might help. How much is the earth warming or cooling? The AP said:
“In a blind test, the AP gave temperature data to four independent statisticians and asked them to look for trends, without telling them what the numbers represented. The experts found no “true temperature declines over time.”
What on the Earth did he mean by that? Were there also “no true temperature increases either?” If the true temperature had increased, wouldn’t the writer have said so? If the scientists project far enough, they’ll all be dead by then. Al Gore’s “Inconvenient Truth” shows New York being flooded by huge tidal waves, which nobody expects, though the notion might appeal to some.
The Wall Street Journal recently published a NOAH chart that showed average global temperature from 1900 to 2000. Deviation from the average was from +.5 degree C to -.25 degree C. With that data, it’s hard to get people worked into a frenzy which can be mitigated only by throwing vast sums of money around.
The AP story said that in 2006, 77 percent of people believed there was scientific evidence for global warming. Now it’s 57 percent. If the trend continues, in 10 years 5 percent will still believe.
Footnote: Recently I was studying Pythagoras who may have been the first scientist. He lived around 450 BC. The Web site www.Longrangeweather.com shows that the global temperature in 500 BC was normal, it peaked in 473, and returned to normal by 460 BC.
Aren’t statistics wonderful?
