Writer supports plan for new medical college

»  Comments | Post a Comment

“Is it a dream....or a Nightmare?” the Nov. 1, 2009, Bristol Herald Courier headline asks about the proposed King College medical school. May it be a dream come true! The question could be, “Why doesn’t our area become a place as valuable and well-known for providing much needed education and health care services as the Duke University and Mayo Clinic areas?”
God has blessed us with wonderful educators, doctors, nurses, and other medical personnel. The $25 million vote of confidence by the Virginia Tobacco Indemnification and Community Revitalization Commission gives us a step forward. This area can be a leader in developing much-needed solutions for providing affordable, quality health care to all Americans which does not mandate participation in an un-American way.
We should capitalize on the opportunity. And we should join together – Bristol, Johnson City, Kingsport and surrounding areas – not competing, but together, to fulfill a wonderful dream for this area and for America. May it be a dream come true!
