Republican Bob McDonnell is the new governor of Virginia, after eight years of democratic leadership in the state.
Voters headed to the polls Tuesday to pick a slate of commonwealth offices. One year removed from turning the state blue, Virginia voters turned their back on Democrats, electing a Republican sweep of statewide offices in the Old Dominion.
Similar to the presidential election one year ago, the economy seemed to dominate people's minds at the polls. Voters told 11 Connects they looked for the candidate who had the best plan to grapple with our economic problems.
They said they wanted someone who would bring more traditional Southwest Virginia conservative economic values to Richmond.
