A Kingsport man is in jail today after police say he shot at another man and a young girl in a truck.
Reports from the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office state they responded to a disturbance, including gunfire, on Old Blairs’ Gap Road Tuesday night. When they arrived, police say, they spoke with Orge Phillips who said his son in law came to his trailer, made a remark about someone having called child protective services on him, and then left.
As the son-in-law, James Lawson, left, Phillips apparently fired a .22 caliber rifle at the truck.
Later that evening, Lawson called and officers responded to Russell Street in Kingsport and corroborated Orge’s story – with one big difference. According to reports, Lawson told police that Orge first pointed the rifle at him, not his truck.
Orge Patton Phillips, 66, is being held in the Sullivan County Correctional Facility on a $50,000 bond and charged with attempted second degree murder and reckless endangerment.
No word on whether or not child protective services is involved in this case.
