Abingdon, Va. -- Teaching middle school is no easy task. But a Tri-Cities region school is so good at it - it's earned national recognition.
E.B. Stanley Middle School in Abingdon, Va. was named a "School to Watch" for excellence in middle school education.
Community leaders met at the school this morning to celebrate the honor. Only sixteen middle schools in Virginia have ever received this award since it began in 2003.
An assessment team visited the school and determined it was worthy of the national destination.
The "Schools to Watch" recognition is a self-nominated process, and schools in 18 around the country apply.
The award lasts for three years, and by then, it's time for schools to re-apply, as they continue working toward excellence.
