A proposal that would have allowed abortion under special circumstances failed in the Tennessee General Assembly.
The resolution's intent was to preserve the ability of a rape or incest victim to abort the pregnancy.
Under the proposal, a woman could have also received an abortion if the pregnancy jeopardized her health.
The House Public Health and Family Assistance Subcommittee voted down the proposal sponsored by Democratic Representative Henry Fincher yesterday.
