Washington Co., Va. -- Investigations seem to drag on well after crimes are committed, especially robberies that often go unsolved.
Last July 11th, BB&T Bank in Meadowview, Va. was robbed, and just this past week, the Washington County Virginia Sheriff's Department believes they've cracked the case.
At the scene of the crime, a K-9 team found a piece of soft chew candy. Detectives sent it to the state crime lab in Roanoke, and just last week, the DNA from the saliva on the chewed candy matched the DNA of a person charged in a crime in Florida.
The person is William Lee Anderson II. Interviews by Washington County investigators, found that Anderson's son, William Lee Byron Anderson, lived near the bank in Meadowview. They say he drove the get-away car for the robbery.
Police arrested them, the elder in South Carolina, and the younger in North Carolina. They are charged with robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery.
The younger Anderson signed a release and is now back in Washington County at the regional jail awaiting his trial. His father has not been brought back yet, and if he does not come willingly, the state will set up an extradition to bring him back for trial.
