Wythe County Murder Case Goes To Grand Jury

»  Comments | Post a Comment

WYTHEVILLE, Va. (AP) - Twelve charges against a Wythe County man accused of killing one neighbor, wounding another and trying to kill three other people will go to a grand jury.
Wythe County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court Judge Lee Chitwood on Tuesday certified charges that include first-degree murder and malicious wounding against Douglas Albert Jaccard after a preliminary hearing.
Police say the 59-year-old Jaccard shot and killed Joe Bane in the Max Meadows area, shot Jerry Covey in the arm, and set fire to Bane's house with Bane's wife and son inside.
Chitwood did not find probable cause to certify an arson charge against Jaccard.
The events in mid-December sparked a three-day manhunt for Jaccard, during which two sheriff's deputies say he shot at them.
