STUDENT OF THE WEEK: Brent McFerrin

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Brent McFerrin is this week's student of the week. The senior at Tennessee High School works hard in the classroom and excels in math and science.
"For me, I want to make something of myself and I want to do something with my life and I don't see why you wouldn't want to," McFerrin said.
Brent will be studying architecture at the University of Tennessee in the fall. About five years ago he started working on computer aided design drawings.
"I really like to draw and make all kinds of sketches and things," said McFerrin.
But Brent has another talent. He recently entered a writing contest and won.
"I just sat down at sat down at my computer for a while and wrote this paper," McFerrin said.
He wrote a paper on veterans and featured his Grandfather and uncle who both served their country in the Korean War.
His paper won best in the state and earned him a trip to Washington D.C. this April to compete in the national competition. The top prize is around 30,000.
While in Washington, Brent may also get the chance to meet President Barack Obama.
