Victoria Kuchera and other students at Lake Ridge School in Johnson City are learning a lot of things they didn't know about some of the foods they love to eat thanks to something they walk by many times a day.
"I didn't know that Fruit Loops were bad for you,” said Victoria Kuchera, 3rd grade student.
As a part of health and wellness month Cheryl Povlich got creative with the bulletin board in the front lobby of the school. She stapled empty boxes of products like Uncle Ben’s Rice, Cheerios and many other foods. The goal is to get students to improve their eating habits and overall health.
"Kool Aid Jammers has a lot more sugar than this lemonade," said Abigail Baker, 4th grader.
The idea for the colorful bulletin board came from a book by David Zinczenko called “Eat This Not That”.
There are many shocking details inside the book. Another example, Wheat Thins have more sugar than a bag of Doritos.
The bulletin board has caught the attention of many students.
"I just want to stay healthy and have a fit body," said Tripp Povlich, 4th grade student.
Parents are taking notice as well.
"I do need to read my labels more," said Michelle Kuchera, parent.
The bulletin board will stay up at Lake Ridge School for another two weeks.
