Marsh Regional Blood Center will hold its annual Donor Days celebration Monday, June 29 through Friday, July 3, to thank donors who provide life-saving blood donations, and to remind the public that summer – for a variety of reasons – is a time of great need at Marsh Regional.
Donor Days will feature a number of door prize giveaways and free food for blood donors at Marsh Regional collection centers in Bristol and Kingsport. Seasonal variables combine to make summer a potentially dangerous time for the 17 healthcare facilities in the region that depend on Marsh Regional to supply blood.
“Summer’s that time of year when many people take a few days or a week to get away with family,” said Don Campbell, director of Marsh Regional, “but the need for blood never goes away. And because of the season, there tends to be a higher demand for blood because people are driving more, taking trips, engaging in more behaviors that can put them at higher risk for an accident.
“Our supplies are actually low right now, and we’re in need of all blood types. Donor Days gives us a chance to appeal for more donors when we really need them, and it also gives us a chance to say thanks to all who give the gift of life.”
Donors who come to the Julia Davis Collection Center in Kingsport and the Marsh Donor Center at Bristol Regional Medical Center will receive daily treats – among them hot dogs, cookies, brownies, ice cream and bagels from Panera – during Donor Days and become eligible to win prizes. There will be daily drawings for $25 Wal-Mart gift cards, and all who donate during the week will be entered in prize drawings at the end of the week for a digital camera, Dollywood tickets and an mp3 player.
