Recent severe weather in the Tri-Cities region is a bit unusual this late into June. The heavy rains and high winds usually occur much earlier in the spring but lately our region has been getting pounded by harsh storms.
The reason behind all the fallen trees, downed power lines, flash flooding and other ill effects may have a cause. The jet stream. Typically at this point in June the jet stream is much farther north into Canada but colder air from the northeast is colliding with our warmer air down south and that can change the position of the jet stream.
A lower jet stream means more severe weather for the Tri-Cities.
