UPDATED 12:30 p.m.: The man authorities believe shot two family members at his residence Thursday night is being treated at a Roanoke hospital for an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.
William Dennis "Denny" Osborne, 41, arrived at his home at 536 Vipperman Hollow Rd. in Sugar Grove around 9:20 p.m., armed with a pistol. As he attempted to gain entry, he fired several rounds through a window, wounding his wife, Pamela Osbore, 40, and a juvenile female present, according to the Smyth County Sheriff's Office.
A male juvenile inside the residence returned fire, causing Denny Osborne to retreat to his truck, parked in the driveway. He was in the vehicle when deputies arrived.
An emergency response team attended to the Pamela Osborne and the other wounded female, whose name has not be released. Officers from Smyth and Wythe counties used tear gas to subdue Denny Osborne, who did not cooperate with orders to leave the vehicle.
"Upon contact, it was discovered that the suspect was injured," the Smyth County Sheriff's Office stated in a release. They described Denny Osborne's injury as an "apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound."
A deputy confirmed that Denny Osborne is alive and undergoing surgery.

MARION, Va. – A domestic incident in a sleepy rural community here turned violent Thursday night, sending three people to the hospital with gunshot wounds.
Law enforcement authorities believe that one of those wounded, a man, was the perpetrator behind shootings in the Camp area of the county, near Sugar Grove. They have not elaborated on a motive or released names of those involved, as they continue investigating.
Two victims, an adult and a juvenile female, were transported to the Smyth County Community Hospital in Marion where they arrived in “guarded condition” and were treated for multiple gunshot wounds, a hospital official and sheriff’s deputy said. The adult and juvenile victim had stabilized and were undergoing surgery as of early this morning.
The male suspect, who was also wounded, was transported to a hospital in Wytheville. His condition was not immediately clear.
A fourth individual was present at the dwelling but was not wounded. All four are related, officials said.
The incident was reported to police just after 9:00 p.m., said Kenny Lewis, chief deputy in the Smyth County Sheriff’s Office.
“We had responded to that house repeatedly for domestic problems,” Lewis said, adding that the shootings Thursday night represented the most severe incident “by far.”
