May 28
* A woman reported that a male acquaintance tried to forcibly kiss her on an apartment complex elevator. The man denied the unwelcome smooching but police officers warned him against further attempts.
May 29
* A Virginia Avenue woman said that at lunchtime on or around May 26 a suspicious man visited her home and tried to sell her an alarm system.
* Around 11 p.m., two men got into a fight on Shelby Street after one cursed the other’s dead father. The fight did not turn physical.
May 30
* A blond-headed thief and his dark-haired cohort, nabbed a woman’s handbag while she was dining on the patio of a State Street restaurant at 7:30 p.m. Police quickly caught up with the brunette, who admitted having been with the blond when he stole the purse. He was taken into custody for questioning.
* Police responding to a domestic disturbance discovered an active warrant for the woman involved. She was wanted in Bristol, Va., and was arrested.
June 1
* Someone chucked red paint off the roof of a downtown theater, splattering the marquee and sidewalk below. Police were unable to find the subjects on the roof of the theater or adjoining buildings.

May 28
* Police kept a close watch on Lawrence Avenue after a man knocked on an apartment door, but left when the resident inquired about his intentions. The caller reported a similar occurrence two days earlier.
May 29
* Officers responded to a fight on Oakview Avenue around 2:30 a.m., where at least a dozen people were beating each other, some armed with baseball bats. The subjects fled, some on foot and others by car.
May 31
* Officers responded to a 1 a.m. call from a Portsmouth Avenue woman who heard loud voices over the television and noticed strange cars parked in front of the building. Thirteen minutes later, she called back to report that they were doing “very vulgar things” in the lot. The subjects were gone when officers arrived.
June 2
* A caller reported a “buck naked” man standing in his Second Street apartment window. On several previous occasions, the caller, along with others, asked the man to refrain from standing nude in his window, because there is a park full of kids nearby.

* The Mendota Neighborhood Watch meets at 7 p.m., Thursday, at the Mendota Community Center in Washington County.
* The Northwinds Townhouses Neighborhood Watch will meet at
6 p.m. Friday at the townhouses, 75 Old Airport Road.
