BLUFF CITY, Tenn. – While Mayor Todd Malone might be the leader of Bluff City, it is Board of Mayor and Aldermen members Irene Wells and Melvin Carrier who hold the most city property, according to Tennessee disclosure and assessment data.

Wells has the following listed property: a Railroad Street primary residence, assessed at $56,600, a B&I Private Drive commercial warehouse with three lots, valued at $98,700, and a Cedar Street Extension residential lot ($4,200).

On her candidate disclosure form, Wells lists Social Security and a Tennessee Medical Board retirement fund among her sources of income.

Wells said Monday that she took filing her disclosure form “very seriously” and even consulted Tennessee officials for guidance on doing it properly.

“Anything that’s a requirement for me to do as a candidate, I’m happy to do,” Wells said.

Carrier has a Main Street residence valued at $77,300, a Main Street commercial storefront, $34,000, and residential lots on Cherokee Drive and Main Street, valued at $8,800 and $8,000, respectively.

On his candidate disclosure form, Carrier lists Social Security under source of income. Carrier could not be reached for comment Monday.

Vice Mayor James Gentry has a Lakeview Drive primary residence, valued at $176,300, listed under the name of his wife, Tina. “I got nothing to do with the house,” a chuckling Gentry said Monday. “It was my wife’s when I met her.”

On his candidate disclosure form, Gentry lists the Johnson City Power Board as his source of income.

Gentry said it’s important for candidates to file disclosure forms so residents know all they should about them. But Gentry admitted that, at first, he had fears about not filing correctly.

“I ended up calling the state and they sent me to the Web site for help,” Gentry said.

Recently elected Alderman Robert Miller has a Cedar Street primary residence valued at $66,400. On his candidate disclosure, Miller lists the Department of Veterans Affairs and Nakatetsu Machining Technologies as sources of income.

Mayor Malone has a Hillcrest Drive home with a lot and shed valued at $103,100. On his candidate disclosure form, Malone lists work for Edwards & Associates as his source of income. The mayor also noted that he filed Chapter 7 bankruptcy for himself and his company, Race Scan Communications, in 2008.
