»  Comments | Post a Comment

The Tennessee Highway Patrol says a sleepy driver caused the death of a Jonesborough woman Tuesday morning.

Troopers say 23-year old Rachael Proffitt of Johnson City fell asleep at the wheel around 8:00 a.m. Tuesday morning on Conklin Road in Jonesborough and drifted into the southbound lane.

Thomas Briggs was headed the opposite way and swerved to avoid Proffitt's car. But Proffitt swerved back onto her side of the road and hit Briggs head on.

The crash killed 28-year old Misty Briggs. An 18-month old child in the car and both drivers were injured.

Troopers say Rachael Proffitt will face criminal charges.
